A state review board recently granted parole to a man who shot and stabbed a Richland police officer 32 years ago, but law enforcement officials in the Tri-Cities are asking Washington Gov. Jay Inslee to block his release.
Some police chiefs and sheriffs in Benton, Franklin and Walla Walla counties say Jerry Lain should be kept in prison because he is still a danger to the community.
The Tri-City Herald reports before Lain leaves prison a release plan must be approved by the state Department of Corrections and Indeterminate Sentence Review Board.
Lain nearly killed an officer investigating a car prowl in 1982 in Richland.
