A trial is set to begin in Eugene in the case of a 38-year-old man accused of killing his father and his father's partner during an argument.
The Eugene Register-Guard reports 38-year-old Johan Gillette is expected to testify that he acted in self-defense against the couple in their 70s.
Gillette and his girlfriend at the time lived in a trailer on the father's rural property. Court documents say the girlfriend told investigators that Gillette's father threatened to kick them off the property.
Prosecutors are expected to emphasize Gillette's changing statements to investigators.
Gillette could face the death penalty for the 2012 deaths of 73-year-old former firefighter Jim Gillette and 71-year-old retired music professor Anne Dhu McLucas. They died of massive blows to the head.
Opening statements are scheduled Wednesday.
