A 24-year-old transient suspected of raping two girls in Missoula in July has been arrested in Denver and returned to Montana to face charges.
William Charles Stephens made an initial appearance in court Monday on two counts of sexual intercourse without consent. His bail was maintained at the $50,000 set in his arrest warrant.
The girls, ages 13 and 14, said they ran away from a group home and were staying under the Reserve Street Bridge in Missoula when they met a man who said his name was "Oscar." The girls drank alcohol with him and told him they were three years older than they were.
Prosecutors say Stephens had sex with both girls despite their protests. In Montana, the legal age of consent is 16.
