A suspect in a rape case who led law enforcement officers on a chase on Interstate 15 northwest of Great Falls has died of a gunshot wound to the head.

Cascade County sheriff's deputies tried to apprehend the man in Great Falls on Sunday afternoon for questioning in a rape that was reported a day earlier. Montana Highway Patrol officers were asked to assist as the suspect drove north on the interstate.

After a 30 minute chase, the suspect's pickup stopped in the median. Sheriff Bob Edwards says the suspect died of a gunshot wound to the head.

The Great Falls Tribune reports (http://gftrib.com/1hXcOBO ) Lewis and Clark County Coroner Mickey Nelson on Monday identified the man as 49-year-old Timothy Arnold Miller.

Officials would not comment on how Miller was shot.

No officers were injured.
