Crews in Missoula on Wednesday morning are working to attach a grappling hook to what they believe could be a vehicle that plunged into the Clark Fork River a day earlier.
Missoula Police Department spokesman Travis Welsh says crews in boats using poles to probe the water struck what they believe is a metal object below a trestle.
Witnesses say a vehicle went over the edge of a parking lot Tuesday afternoon and went into the river. There are no reports of anyone getting out.
Welsh says the trestle where the search is now focused is about 200 yards downstream from where the vehicle went in.
Welsh says the water is too dangerous to use divers.
He says authorities don't know who might have been in the vehicle.
