JEROME, Idaho -

Authorities in south-central Idaho are looking for the driver of a blue Toyota pickup who fled from a police stop and dragged a leashed dog that leaped out of the truck bed.

The Jerome County Sheriff's Office says deputies tried to pull over the vehicle about 2:30 a.m. Wednesday after mistaking the large dog for possibly being a stolen calf.

Police say several calves had been reported stolen recently.

The sheriff's office says the driver sped away and the dog leaped from the truck on a corner and then was dragged before coming out its collar and running away.

The truck drove into a cornfield. When it was found the driver was gone.

Police say the dog also could not be found.
