A rapist who pleaded guilty 32 years ago and says he's now a changed man wants out of requirements for continued supervision and registration as a sex offender.
A Pierce County judge will take up the request Friday from Donald Lee Giffin.
The News Tribune reports he admitted more than 20 rapes in the 1970s and `80s in Pierce County and pleaded guilty to two. He was treated for six years at Western State Hospital and more than a decade as an outpatient.
Now 62, Giffin says he is employed, sober and has been married for 11 years. He says he should no longer have to register and report to a community corrections officer.
Prosecutors oppose his request and say he should be supervised the rest of his life.
