PORT ANGELES, Wash. -

A Port Angeles couple says the city electrical utility has threatened to cut off their power unless they accept the installation of a smart meter that sends readings wirelessly.

Virginia and Tom Leinart say the signals threaten human health and violate their right to privacy. To block the installation they've built a box around their existing meter so it can be read, but not replaced.

The Peninsula Daily News reports that Virginia Leinart complained at Tuesday's City Council meeting that she feels threatened and harassed.

City utilities director Craig Fulton says an electric inspector will meet with the Leinarts and he hopes they can resolve the dispute without shutting off their power.
