Eugene, OR -

The Eugene police department's "party patrol" has made the first arrests of the fall term under a new city law that holds hosts responsible for out-of-control parties. Six students face fines of up to $1,000 each.

They're not the first arrests in a push against unruly parties in University of Oregon neighborhoods. The Register-Guard reports the City Council approved the ordinance in January. Police began enforcing it in April.

But fall term is the big party season around campus.

Police busted two parties Saturday -- as many as 100 people may have left one of the gatherings before officers arrived.

Two of those charged with hosting rowdy parties are university students. Four attend Lane Community College.

Twelve underage people, including a high school student, got tickets for having alcohol.
