Medford police say a man hid in the bushes waiting for a 38-year-old woman to return to her apartment and then attacked her, fatally stabbing her.
Police Chief Tim George tells the Mail Tribune it was what he called "a targeted attack."
The victim was 38-year-old Maria Guadelupe Rodriguez. Witnesses said her assailant caught her from behind Sunday night. She died outside her apartment.
Police have identified the suspect as 45-year-old Jose Valencia-Gaona of Medford.
They say his street name is "Pepe" and the two knew each other, possibly from a past relationship.
