PORTLAND, OR -

A man who had twice been convicted of drunken driving and then killed a 90-year-old woman and her son in a Portland crash has been sentenced to 18 years in prison.

The Oregonian reported the sentence Monday was the result of an agreement in which 30-year-old Daniel Troy Johnson of St. Helens pleaded guilty to manslaughter.

The victims were Hazel Knepper and 55-year-old Paul Knepper.

Witnesses to the March 9 crash, including one of his passengers, said Johnson drank and then drove at highway speeds on Portland's southeast side, running a stop sign and the hitting the Knepper car so hard it sounded like an explosion.
