A man suspected of wounding a police officer was caught after a manhunt in southwest Portland, but his police dog is missing and may also be wounded.
Police are asking people to watch for the German shepherd but not to approach it.
Sgt. Pete Simpson says the wounded officer is expected to survive and is being treated at Legacy Emanuel Medical Center in Portland.
The Oregonian reports (http://bit.ly/1eyN6mW ) the suspect was taken into custody about 5:30 a.m. Wednesday and is being treated at a Portland hospital. It's unclear if he was shot.
The incident may have begun when a resident was awakened by his barking dog and confronted a car prowler who threatened him with a rifle.
Police exchanged shots with the suspect about 3 a.m. after a traffic stop.
