TACOMA, Wash. -

A man accused of shooting at a Lakewood officer as he fled from police in a minivan has been sentenced to more than 23 years in prison.

The News Tribune reports that 24-year-old Gabriel Salvador Ramirez was sentenced after pleading guilty to several charges Friday, including drive-by shooting and trying to elude police.

Authorities say an officer had tried to pull over the van Ramirez was driving in January when he fled and starting firing shots.

The officer returned fire.

Police say Ramirez had driven through a construction zone and a playground before striking a building and running away.

Police eventually caught up with Ramirez and took him into custody.
