Billings, MT -

A 23-year-old Wolf Point man who pleaded guilty to two charges for a drunken driving crash on Interstate 94 that killed one passenger and injured another has been sentenced to 20 years in prison with 15 suspended.

The Billings Gazette reports Justino Jason Hernandez apologized to the family of Kevor J. Martell during Tuesday's hearing.

Hernandez pleaded guilty in October to negligent homicide and negligent vehicular assault for the August 2012 crash that killed Hernandez and injured 21-year-old Alexander Bar.

Court records say Hernandez told investigators that Martell asked to use his cellphone and took the steering wheel while Hernandez entered his password. The vehicle drifted into the median. Hernandez said he took the wheel and overcorrected, causing the car to roll.

Witnesses reported seeing Hernandez's vehicle speeding without headlights on before the crash.
