FIFE, Wash. -

Authorities say a man fleeing police on foot jumped a fence and ran onto Interstate 5, where he was struck by vehicles and killed.

The southbound lanes of I-5 in Fife were briefly closed Friday morning after the incident.

Washington State Patrol Trooper Todd Bartolac says Fife police were chasing the suspect on foot. KOMO reports Detective Sgt. Tom Thompson of the Fire Police Department said police were called because of an unwanted guest at a nearby motel.

Officers contacted the man, then discovered he had outstanding warrants. Police tried to arrest him, but he ran and jumped a fence to get on I-5.
