A man who was burned when a helicopter crashed on his car in Seattle remains in serious condition in the intensive care unit at Harborview Medical Center.
The hospital says 38-year-old Richard Newman of Seattle will need surgery for burns that covered nearly 20 percent of his body on his back and arms.
Newman's family released a statement through the hospital Thursday thanking people for their support and prayers, including police and firefighters. The family sends a special thanks to Brian Post, the Fisher Plaza security guard who helped put out the fire on Newman.
The Newman family also said their hearts went out to the families of the chopper pilot and photographer working for KOMO-TV who were killed in Tuesday's crash.
The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating what went wrong.
