Federal funding of nearly $3 million will go Linn-Benton Community College to develop online classes to help unemployed workers.
The Labor Department funding is part of the federal Trade Adjustment Assistance Community College and Career Training program, which is intended to expand targeted training for unemployed workers.
The Oregonian newspaper reports (http://is.gd/BMa7EZ ) the Albany-based community college was awarded the money to develop online classes aimed at preparing people for health-related and office jobs.
It was the only Oregon college to win a share of $475 million in federal grants. Every state had at least one grant winner.
