A state judge has rejected a plea agreement in the case of a Great Falls man charged with raping four girls between the ages of 12 and 14.
Cascade County prosecutors reached a plea agreement with 18-year-old Kristian Underdahl that would have allowed him to enter an Alford plea to two counts of sexual intercourse without consent in exchange for the dismissal of 10 other felony charges. It called for a 10-year prison sentence.
Under an Alford plea, a defendant does not admit guilt but acknowledges prosecutors have enough evidence to gain a conviction.
The Great Falls Tribune reports District Judge Greg Pinski rejected the agreement Tuesday. He said state law doesn't allow a similar "no contest" plea in cases involving sex offenses in an effort to hold sexual offenders accountable.
