OLYMPIA, Wash. -

Washington Gov. Jay Inslee and his wife Trudi have turned a patch of the grounds at the governor's mansion into a garden that provides flowers for the residence and vegetables for their table as well as food banks.

The News Tribune reports no public money was spent to create the raised garden beds last year. Everything is donated or paid for by the Inslees.

The garden is popular with visitors and demonstrates the benefit of gardening.

Some of the food is prepared for meals or receptions. The garden also supplies fresh, organic vegetables to food banks and community kitchens.
