A coroner's jury has found no law enforcement wrongdoing in the hanging death of a Yellowstone County jail inmate.
The Billings Gazette reports the seven-person jury deliberated for about 10 minutes Tuesday before determining that 34-year-old Steven Tyler Russo's death was a suicide.
Jail staff testified that Russo gave them no indication he intended to commit suicide. A jailer found him hanging in the shower on June 6. Efforts to resuscitate him failed.
Dr. Tom Bennett, who performed the autopsy, said he found no sign of struggle or any indication that anyone else was involved in 6Russo's death.
The inquest, required when a person dies in law enforcement custody, was presided over by Big Horn County Coroner Terry Bullis.
