Inmate escapes from Montana State Prison
Montana State Prison officials say they haven't received any significant leads in their search for a convicted sex offender who escaped from the prison in Deer Lodge.
Dean Randolph Jess escaped at about 11 a.m. Monday and remained at large on Tuesday.
Spokeswoman Linda Moodry says Jess was working for motor vehicle maintenance on a service call when he left prison property. The vehicle he was in was found on the prison ranch.
Jess, who is 42, is described as being Caucasian, 5 feet, 10 inches tall and weighing about 180 pounds. He has green eyes and a shaved head.
Jess was sentenced to 55 years in prison for a 2004 Park County offense. County Attorney Brett Linneweber told The Montana Standard that Jess had an earlier rape conviction in Washington state.
