Two retired nuns who were assaulted during a home invasion robbery have been moved from the hospital to a transitional care facility to undergo rehabilitation for their injuries.
Court records say an assailant beat 90-year-old Sister Mary Vincentia Maronick and stomped on the heads of both Maronick and 79-year-old Sister Clara Scherr during an attack that lasted between five and 10 minutes.
Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth spokeswoman Therese Horvat says there's been an outpouring of community support for the women since the Aug. 14 attack, and that they would appreciate "your continued prayer support."
A 32-year-old Billings man, Christopher Sam Pine, is charged with two counts of felony aggravated burglary and a drug paraphernalia charge. Police are still searching for three more persons of interest in the case.
