Got an unexplained rash? You might want to check out your iPad.
That's according to a case report released Monday in Pediatrics. It's about an 11-year-old boy who developed a body rash that turned out to be a nickel allergy caused by his iPad.
Previous reports detail nickel allergies from other personal electronic devices, including laptops and cellphones. Some jewelry, zippers and eyeglass frames are other sources.
Nickel rashes aren't life-threatening but they can be very uncomfortable. The 11-year-old boy was treated in San Diego and got better after putting his iPad in a protective case.
The study authors say doctors need to consider electronic devices as potential sources when patients seek treatment for skin rashes.
