A man who drowned in a muddy ditch at the U.S.-Canadian border had ties to the Atlanta area and Vancouver, British Columbia.
An autopsy performed by the Whatcom County medical examiner's office found that the death of 44-year-old Suleman Sadruddin Jivani was an accident.
Undersheriff Jeff Parks says he tried to cross the border sometime in the past three weeks when he slipped in the ditch at the edge of a cornfield.
The Bellingham Herald reports it wasn't clear if Jivani was headed north or south.
Canadian border authorities spotted the body Thursday on the U.S. side, about a half-mile west of the Lynden-Aldergrove crossing.
The sheriff's office says Jivani may have been staying with friends in Vancouver. He previously lived in Fayetteville, Georgia.
