A gasoline theft in southern Montana has led to the arrest of a man wanted for taking his young daughters from their legal guardian in Inverness, Fla., on Sept. 8.
Officials in Citrus County, Fla., said 45-year-old Edward Peters was arrested at 4:30 a.m. Thursday at a campground near Greycliff, Mont. The girls, ages 6 and 11, are doing well. Social workers and the FBI are arranging their return to Florida.
Employees at a Laurel gas station reported someone filled up and drove off without paying on Wednesday afternoon. The vehicle matched the description of one stolen in Michigan, where Peters' vehicle was found abandoned on Sunday.
A Sweet Grass County deputy patrolling campgrounds around Prairie Dog State Park spotted the stolen vehicle and arrested Peters. He was jailed in Bozeman.
