Arlington, OR -

Arson investigators are looking into an extensive fire Tuesday morning at a historic church building in the Columbia river town Arlington.

The Gilliam County sheriff's office says the building of the Church of the Nazarene is considered a total loss.

It was damaged earlier this year in a spate of fires. Authorities in the town of about 600 people said in July that four buildings, including the church, were damaged in a two-month period by fires believed to have been set.

The sheriff's department says the church dates to the 1890s and was being repaired.

Investigators have been called in from State Police arson unit and from the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
