School will start without issue at the Evergreen School District as the union and administrators tentatively reached a contract agreement before the first day of class.
The Columbian reports that the Evergreen Education Association announced that the union settled with the district on contract at 3 a.m. Monday. Class starts Wednesday.
Details of the contract will be announced at a union meeting Tuesday. It will not be official until approved by 60 percent of union members.
The decision marks the end of 14 months of bargaining between the district and the union.
The union and district were negotiating curriculum, salary and benefits competitive with the state's 10 largest districts; more support for special education students; additional counselors and support services; and securing enough substitute teachers by offering higher pay.
