A 27-year-old man charged with shooting and killing a Lockwood man outside his trailer house told investigators the victim came at him with a large knife and a small gun and that the gun went off when he grabbed it.
Martin Jon Pond Jr. was arraigned Monday on charges of deliberate homicide and tampering with evidence in the Jan. 3 death of 52-year-old Allen Douglas Alderman. Justice of the Peace David Carter set Pond's bail at $500,000 and scheduled his District Court arraignment for Jan. 17.
Court records say Pond's ex-wife told investigators she was at Alderman's house and that Pond had been sending her threatening texts before arriving at the trailer at about 4:15 a.m.
An autopsy found Alderman was shot four times.
