Portland, OR -

A Department of Environmental Quality manager attended a Portland neighborhood association meeting Monday night to answer questions about a funeral home that recently started offering cremations.

Air quality manager David Monro told the Montavilla Neighborhood Association that the agency listens to complaints about black smoke and sends inspectors. But, Monro says, the Gable Funeral Home is abiding by its permit.

KOIN reports the city of Portland is still investigating noise complaints about the funeral home and Portland Public Schools is awaiting the results of soil tests at a school near the crematorium.
