Cover Oregon looks at extending deadline
Oregon's health insurance exchange and insurance carriers are looking at extending deadlines to allow more people to get health coverage starting Jan. 1.
Cover Oregon Acting Director Bruce Goldberg said Thursday that he's working with carriers and state regulators to push back the Dec. 15 deadline for people to select a plan after the state has informed them of their options.
Goldberg says he's not sure what the new deadline might be.
Cover Oregon's online enrollment system still doesn't work, so the agency is using a paper-based backup system.
The state told people to apply by Dec. 4 if they want insurance coverage to begin on Jan. 1, but officials acknowledged this week that thousands of applications submitted by the deadline would not be processed in time.
