The Idaho Supreme Court has upheld the conviction and sentence for an Idaho County man serving life in prison for his role in the beating death of a child.
The high court handed down its decision Tuesday in the case of Todd W. Carver.
Carver was convicted of first-degree murder for beating his girlfriend's 3-year-old son to death in March 2011. Carver maintained throughout his trial he had nothing to do with the child's death.
His appeal focused on a lower judge's decision to not to appoint him a different lawyer, his sentence of life without parole and jury instructions defining the crime.
The justices unanimously rejected the appeal saying the judge did not abuse his discretion in sentencing or in rejecting a request for a new defense lawyer
