A Billings woman who pleaded guilty to intentionally running over her estranged husband during an argument has been sentenced to 10 years with the Department of Corrections with seven suspended.
The Billings Gazette reports 34-year-old Shawna Mae Smith was sentenced Thursday by District Judge Susan Watters. Watters also ordered Smith to pay over $167,000 in restitution, mostly to cover the victim's medical bills.
Smith pleaded guilty to assault with a weapon in April.
Prosecutors say Smith and her estranged husband were arguing in November 2012 as he walked on the sidewalk and she drove alongside him in a sport utility vehicle. Court records say she intentionally drove onto the sidewalk and hit him, breaking his leg.
She was taken into custody after the hearing.
