A suspect in a Billings armed robbery was shot and killed by a police officer during a traffic stop.
Police Chief Rich St. John says the officer was looking for a suspect in a robbery in which a 61-year-old man was shot in the arm late Sunday. The victim had identified the shooter.
At about 11 p.m. Monday, the officer spotted a car with the suspected shooter in the back seat. He stopped the car and opened the back door to talk to the suspect.
St. John says the suspect failed to obey the officer's orders and made a threatening movement that prompted the officer to draw his weapon and fire several shots.
The suspect was taken to the hospital, where he died.
The names of the suspect and the officer have not been released.
