A Billings man charged with shooting another man to death during an argument over a missing gun and puppy has pleaded not guilty to deliberate homicide.
The Billings Gazette reports Mahpevana-Hane "Lorne" Bearcomesout entered his plea in District Court Thursday by video from the Yellowstone County jail. He also pleaded not guilty to tampering with evidence.
Judge Susan Watters continued Bearcomesout's bond at $500,000.
Bearcomesout surrendered to police on Oct. 20, hours after authorities found the body of 32-year-old Misael Santiago in the driveway of a residence on the city's north end.
Charging documents say Bearcomesout told investigators that he shot Santiago during a dispute over a pit bull puppy and gun he believed Santiago had stolen.
Santiago died of three gunshot wounds to the chest and shoulder.
