PORTLAND, Ore. -

Clackamas County authorities allege a 50-year-old Happy Valley man set up a fake foundation to solicit money to help veterans with post-traumatic stress after his son returned from National Guard service in Iraq and committed suicide.

The sheriff's office says there's no evidence the nonprofit existed, and it asked victims to come forward.

A statement from the sheriff's office says Michael Andrew Brennan was arrested Tuesday on theft by deception charges. He's also accused of food stamp fraud and of taking money from his father-in-law.

A call to a number at Brennan's address was not returned, nor was an email to an address on the Saving America's Heroes webpage. Whether he had a lawyer could not be determined.

His son, Matthew Michael Brennan, died in 2011.
