VENETA, Ore. -

Witnesses to the June 23 plane crash that killed four people near Veneta told investigators they heard the engine stop shortly after the plane took off from a private airstrip.

The Register-Guard says the preliminary report released Wednesday by the National Transportation Safety Board doesn't indicate what may have caused the Cessna's engine to quit. The crash remains under investigation.

The crash killed four people who worked for the Oregon Country Fair at Veneta, which is west of Eugene.
