Montana war veterans preparing for Honor Flight
About 90 World War II veterans from Montana are making final plans for their Big Sky Honor Flight, a "thank-you" trip to tour war memorials in Washington, D.C.
Montana's next flight leaves Billings early on April 21 and returns late April 22.
The Missoulian reports some of the 34 veterans from western Montana finished up their paperwork in Missoula on Sunday.
The veterans will visit the Lincoln memorial, several veterans' memorials and attend a banquet.
A medical team accompanies the group and wheelchairs will be available to help them handle the grueling schedule.
Those traveling include 95-year-old Pete Winter of Ronan, a bomber pilot who was taken hostage in Hungary after being shot down.
The April trip is the third Montana Honor Flight. Four more are scheduled through the fall.
