KITTITAS, Wash. -

Kittitas High School and Elementary School have been locked down after a high school student who was shot off campus arrived at the school Thursday morning seeking help.

The wounded student was rushed to a hospital and was listed in stable condition, according to the Washington State Patrol.

It was not clear exactly what prompted the shooting or where the attack took place.

The shooter remains at large and state troopers and sheriff's deputies have converged on the area around the school. A State Patrol airplane is also helping with the search, but no description of the shooter has been released.

The school campuses will remain in a perimiter lockdown while the search is under way, officials said.
