PORTLAND, Ore. -

Five large wild fires are now burning in Eastern Oregon.

The largest is near the community Frenchglen, on the west side of Steens Mountain in Harney County.

The Bureau of Land Management says Tuesday was tough for firefighters and the Miller Homestead fire grew to 70 square miles. The weather was hot, the winds erratic, the terrain rocky.

The agency says one structure that had been abandoned long ago burned, and some of their options were limited because cattle were in the way.

The Long Draw fire east of Steens Mountain is at 45 square miles. The two fires of the Bonita Complex in Malheur County are at about 23 square miles. Northwest of those, two smaller fires are burning in the Blue Mountains region.
