Aquarium owner arrested, charged for another crime
The head of a public aquarium in Boise has been arrested again by federal agents and is facing new allegations he violated the terms of his pretrial release.
Last week, 39-year-old Ammon Covino of Meridian was indicted by a federal grand jury on charges related to bringing four illegally harvested spotted eagle rays and two lemon sharks to Idaho. Covino is the president of Idaho Aquarium and he was released last week pending trial on a $100,000 bond.
But Covino was arrested again Tuesday, this time federal prosecutors say amid allegations he directed his 20-year-old nephew Peter Covino to tell a Florida man to destroy information related to a recent order for undersized and illegal nurse sharks.
Peter Covino was also arrested Tuesday and charged with obstruction of justice.
