7 years sought for Ore. man with gun at school

Prosecutors are asking a judge to send an Oregon man to prison for seven years after he was found with a loaded pistol at a school and a cache of weapons at home.

Raphael Amoroso is due in federal court Monday in Medford. He pleaded guilty in August to charges of having a gun on school grounds and being a marijuana user in possession of firearms.

The 27-year-old Grants Pass handyman has denied any intention of shooting up a high school football game the night he was arrested outside Grants Pass High School. Inside his car was a book about a sniper attack on a football game.

In recommending the sentence, prosecutors noted that Amoroso has a history of "disturbing mental perspective" and an ability to amass firearms and explosives.
