A 47-year-old woman who ran over a Missoula police officer while trying to avoid arrest has been sentenced to 30 years in the Montana Women's Prison.
Dawnette Eaton was sentenced Tuesday by District Judge Karen Townsend. Eaton earlier pleaded guilty to leaving the scene of an injury accident and "no contest" to assault with a weapon. She has nine previous felony convictions.
Officers Deni Poling and Lt. Rich Stepper were trying to arrest Eaton on a probation violation in January when Eaton backed over Poling. Stepper fired at Eaton's car and hit her in the arm.
Poling suffered serious injuries and asked Townsend to require Eaton to spend at least 15 years in prison before being eligible for parole. Townsend didn't set that restriction, meaning Eaton could seek parole after 7.5 years.
