A 14-year-old Spokane boy drowned while swimming in Blue Lake Saturday evening.

The boy was on a boating trip with his father, siblings, and friends.

He was swimming with three other children in the lake in Blue Lake off the Coeur d’Alene River. He eventually was separated from the group and disappeared. The children continued to search for the boy, but were unable to locate him. Someone in a nearby boat was able to make a 911 call.

Marine Deputies from the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office, the Kootenai County Dive Rescue Team, the Harrison Quick Response Unit, and personnel from the East Side Fire Department responded to try to locate the boy. They arrived on scene and searched the lake for over two hours. The search was suspended due to darkness.

The boy's body was located by Dive Rescue Team around 4PM on Sunday. It was under 15 feet of water.

The investigation is still ongoing. An autopsy on the body is scheduled to determine the actual cause of death.
