POST FALLS, Idaho -

Christopher Thompson is in jail on a $1 million bond, charged with first degree murder in the killing his girlfriend Deborah Willette in what is the first homicide in three years in Post Falls.

Post Falls Police were doing a welfare check Monday night at an apartment on North Compton and Seltice Way. Officers had Police had been called out to that apartment before on a domestic violence incident.

On Monday night they found 57-year-old Deborah Willette dead inside.

Investigators worked through the night collecting evidence at the apartment where, according to neighbors, Thompson, 44, lived with Willette. Court documents say her throat had been slit with a sharp instrument and there was a large amount of blood around her neck.

Police arrested Thompson at a family member's house Monday night.

Documents say that Thompson admitted to a detective he killed Willette and then had several beers. He also said something to the effect of "[N]ow I've got a second job, I've got to dispose of her."
