US Marshals are searching for a man in Benewah County for attempted murder with a firearm for an incident earlier this fall in Stevens County.

The Marshals are searching for Britton Hanson, 31, who was last seen on foot heading toward Happy Creek from Benewah Creek Road.

Hanson is described as being a white male, 5'9", 176 lbs. He was wearing a tan Carhart-type coat and is considered armed and dangerous.

According to his Facebook page, Hanson graduated from Lewiston High School in 2000 and is a former LC Valley resident.

Hanson has a long criminal history in Nez Perce County, including domestic violence, eluding officers, intimidating a witness, drug charges, and various other charges.

A press release issued by the Benewah County Sheriff's Office on behalf of the US Marshals Service Thursday erroneously said Hanson was being sought for pre-meditated first degree murder. The Marshals service has not explained the discrepancy in the release.

Anyone with any information is asked to call the Benewah County Sheriff's Office at 208-245-2555.
