COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho -

A Couer d'Alene man is dead after an officer involved shooting Friday night.

The shooting happened in the 400 block of East Dragonfly Road around 9 p.m.

A neighbor says he saw Coeur d'Alene Police entering both sides of a backyard and yelling at the man. Shots were fired shortly after.

"When I heard six or seven pop, you know at first it sounded like a gun but I thought it was just the neighboring kids who had graduated,” said Kimberly Lucero.

Those who live close to scene can't believe something like this happened in the normally quiet neighborhood.

"It's really sad. I just moved in the neighborhood. Regardless of the situation good or bad, i feel bad for a mother losing her son,” said Lucero.

Major Crimes, which consists of multiple agencies including the Idaho State Patrol, took over the investigation from Coueur d'Alene Police and were working well into Saturday morning.

"It is the protocol that they would take over the investigation so we make sure it's a very clean investigation and there is no bias whatsoever,” explained Christie Wood with the Coeur d' Alene Police Department.

No officers were injured and those involved have been put on administrative leave pending further investigation.
