A Post Falls man with a lengthy criminal history was arrested on Saturday for burglarizing a farm near Post Falls.

According to a press release sent out by the Kootenai County Sheriff's Office, deputies were called to the 1600 block of North McGuire Rd. for a possible burglary in progress just before 1 p.m.

A Post Falls Police officer arrived and arrested Cody O. Westlake, 44, inside a barn on private property.

Westlake told deputies he was just driving by and wanted to have a look inside the barn.

According to the release, "Deputies found pry tools and fresh damage to the barn doors as well as pointed out that there were several 'no trespassing' signs all over the barn. Additionally, the barn has been the victim of numerous burglaries over the years."

Westlake was arrested on charges of attempted burglary, malicious injury to property, possession of a controlled substance (marijuana) and possession of drug paraphernalia.

He was been booked into the Kootenai County Jail.

Westlake is no stranger to the jail. He’s been booked into the Kootenai County Jail 25 times over 25 years for a variety of offenses, including burglary, theft, probation violation and forgery.
