Police in Coeur d'Alene have arrested a convicted killer on suspicion of stabbing a transient north of Coeur d'Alene earlier this week.
Sgt. Christie Wood says 56-year-old James H. Kountz was arrested at about 5:40 p.m. Wednesday in a wooded area near U.S. Highway 95, the same area where the stabbing occurred Monday.
Wood says Kountz was convicted of involuntary manslaughter in California, after initially being charged with murder in 1989. Wood says police have arrested Kountz three times for aggravated battery.
Kountz faces a charge of attempted second-degree murder for the stabbing of 42-year-old James R. Hoglen on Monday. Hoglen, who is from Reno, Nev., was stabbed in the upper torso and face. He was listed in stable condition Wednesday at Kootenai Medical Center.
