North Idaho College enrollment numbers down
Officials with North Idaho College say the school's enrollment is down more than 5 percent compared to last spring.
NIC Vice President Graydon Stanley told the Coeur d'Alene Press the decrease in enrollment wasn't unexpected, and it's consistent with an improving economy. He says more prospective or current students have the opportunity for employment, and some of them are choosing to leave the higher education system for jobs.
The total headcount for NIC students this spring is 6,072, compared to more than 6,400 last spring.
At the same time, enrollment in the dual credit program is on the rise, increasing more than 8 percent. The program allows high school juniors and seniors to enroll for both high school and college credit.
