COEUR D'ALENE. Idaho -

In a New Year's Day tradition that tests a person's bravery and dedication, hundreds gathered together at Sanders Beach Tuesday, shivering in the cold, to kick off 2013 by running into Lake Coeur d'Aalene.

You can believe what you want, but the numbers don't lie: The waters of Lake Coeur d'Alene were 42 degrees Tuesday. The air temperature was 26.

This was the setting for the traditional Polar Plunge in Coeur d'Alene, where people run into the water and, as fast as they went in, come right back out screaming all the way.
